Sherryl Mitchell, M.D. is the newest addition to the Kidney & Hypertension Specialists Team. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Board Eligible in Nephrology. Originally from Puerto Rico, where she grew up with her influential parents that were also in the Medical field. At very young age, she recognized she was destined to become physician. Dr. Mitchell began her studies in Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. She graduated Cum Laude with her bachelor’s degree in the field of Natural Sciences with a General Science concentration in 2006. During her studies, her father was diagnosed with Poststreptococcal Glomerulonephritis, kidney disease. On occasion she would accompany her father at his appointments where she attentively observed the process of hemodialysis. After two years of going through the dialysis process, her father then was able to receive a kidney transplant, which kept him alive for over 17 years. She dedicated herself to becoming a nephrologist.
Dr. Mitchell attended the School of Medicine at the Universidad Iberoamericana and received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2010. Devoted to her passion in medicine, she proceeded with her education while she worked as a Human Anatomy Professor at Interamerican University in Aguadilla, while also completing 1 year of Medicine Internship at the Buen Samaritano Hospital, Puerto Rico. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Mayaguez Medical Center, Puerto Rico in 2016. Soon after, she moved to the United States where she was accepted at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and trained in kidney transplants, carrying out her fellowship in June of 2018. Along with her numerous skills, Dr. Mitchell is bilingual in English and Spanish.
In August 2018, Dr. Mitchell proudly joined the Kidney & Hypertension Specialists Team of Nephrologists serving the San Antonio community.
