#MostRequestedLive Interview: Black Eyed Peas

The Black Eyed Peas are BACK and we couldn't be more stoked to have them join us for an interview on #MostRequestedLive via Zoom! will.i.am, apl.de.ap, and Taboo joined Maxwell for a virtual chat about their hot new song "Mamacita," cancel culture, the pandemic, their incredible comeback and lots more.

On whether they were nervous about making a comeback as a trio:

"I could see what the optics were like. Black Eyed Peas, we're a trio, we're in our 40s, we had our run at the top, playing Super Bowls and World Cups 'I Got A Feeling' and 'Boom Boom Pow' on the chart #1 and #2 for months and months. Translation was like... 'Ooooooh we gonna show you!' It feels so good to look at the Billboard Latin charts, for us to have a #1 and #2 right now as a trio in our 40s... what!

On their feelings on cancel culture:

"Cancel culture has a lot of people shook and afraid to speak up, because, if I speak up, am I gonna get canceled? If I speak up, does it mess up my career? You have to look at, like, Muhammed Ali when he spoke up. He didn't speak up from a point of hate. You have to be very careful and delicate about how you speak out and how you shed light on truths. Dixie Chicks spoke up and they got canceled. That kind of put some fear in my belly because that was around the same time we did "Where Is The Love." For the life of me I don't understand why we were able to be played all over Top 40 radio with 'Where Is The Love' but Dixie Chicks weren't."

On why it's important for them to use their platform to speak out against injustices:

"Because, it's like, how can you be of service to others with the amazing blessing of being a Black Eyed Pea? We were introduced to the world as Black Eyed Peas, and we chose to be activists and philanthropists so that we can use this blessing to help others. That energy and that philanthropy mindset is something that we take into our individual things we are passionate about."

On the one thing that has helped them come back in such a big way this year:

"No matter what obstacles we get handed in front of us, we'll always remain loyal and consistent to our music and to our journey that we started as teenagers. No matter what variation, no matter what frequency we tap into and we're inspired by, you'll always remain consistent knowing that me, will and apl. will always bring the next and the new. We're very blessed that the J. Balvins and the Malumas and Ozunas and Shakiras and all the people that worked with us were open-minded and believed in the project as much as we believed in it. And nowm to be able to have success with "Ritmo" being bigger than 'I Got A Feeling' and 'Where Is The Love,' now in 2020, as a trio, we kind of showed the world that no matter what, the music is the music."
