'Game Of Thrones' Director Admits The Final Season Was 'Rushed'

It's no secret that Game of Thrones fans had strong feelings about the final season. They weren't exactly positive feelings, either. Backlash for the mega-popular show's series finale was so intense and widespread, the show's creators, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, and some prominent cast members, including Sophie Turner and Kit Harrington, have publicly defended their work multiple times.

Despite Turner and Harrington's disdain for criticism of the final season of Game of Thrones, fans continued to feel that last season was lackluster. Those fans finally have some validation of their feelings from Neil Marshall, who directed season two's "Blackwater" and season four's "The Watcher's on the Wall." In a new interview with Metro, Marshall admitted he actually agrees with the criticism season eight received.

“One of the greatest experiences I had with working on both those episodes was that they were so open to bringing my ideas, particularly about battle scenes and how battles worked," Marshall explained. "I would’ve definitely added my strategy and knowledge to that.”

“I kind of agree with a lot of the criticism that it was really rushed," he continued. "Everyone ended up where they were meant to end up but they got there in a little bit of a rush in the end.”

The final season feeling "rushed" was the most common criticism the final season received. Fans who felt cheated by the last few episodes will likely agree with Marshall's take on the end of Game of Thrones.
