Dick Van Dyke Announces 'Mary Poppins' Epcot Attraction At D23 Expo

Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke was a surprise guest at Disney's D23 Expo to announce an all new Mary Poppins themed attraction set to debut at Walt Disney World's Epcot. The 93 year old actor was introduced on-stage after a troupe of chimney sweep dancers performed the film's classic song "Step In Time."

Addressing "Sneak Peek! Disney Parks, Experiences and Products" panel attendees, he shared his adoration for company founder and early collaborator Walt Disney. To a standing ovation, Dick also shared a touching memory in which Walt encouraged him to embody child-like wonder in his 'Poppins' performance all those years ago.

The magic of Mary Poppins will be open for all to experience at the United Kingdom pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase. Displayed in Disney's artistic mock-ups above, park-goers will be able to stroll down Cherry Tree Lane in the newly constructed neighborhood addition. Guests can then enter the Banks family residence to ride or walk though the yet-to-be-named attraction.

There is currently no tentative launch date for Epcot's new Mary Poppins experience. However, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Bob Chapek did reveal that most of Epcot's announced renovations will be activated by Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary celebration. The anniversary festivities are due to take place in 2021, and instead of special attractions being limited to Magic Kingdom - all four Orlando parks will take part.
